How to assemble a standard base cabinet from start to finish. Covers attaching the face frame, installing the back panel, mounting drawer glides, and securing the toe kick. Base cabinets are the foundation of the kitchen — get these right and everything else follows.

Wall Cabinet Assembly

Step-by-step assembly of a wall (upper) cabinet. Covers box construction, shelf pin hole placement, hinge mounting plate installation, and back panel attachment. Wall cabinets are lighter than base cabinets and generally faster to assemble — the key is getting the hinge plates positioned correctly before you close up the box.

Drawer Box Assembly and Installation

How to assemble dovetail drawer boxes and mount them onto soft-close undermount glides. Covers squaring the box, attaching the drawer front panel, mounting the glides inside the cabinet, and adjusting the drawer for smooth, even operation. Properly installed drawers are one of those things you notice every day — it is worth taking the time to do it right.

Door Adjustment (Hinge Adjustment)

How to use the three-way adjustment screws on soft-close European hinges to align cabinet doors perfectly. Covers side-to-side adjustment (closing the gap between doors), depth adjustment (bringing the door flush with the face frame), and height adjustment (leveling a door that hangs crooked). Once you understand how hinges work, correcting a misaligned door takes about 30 seconds.

Crown Molding Installation

How to measure, miter, and install crown molding on top of upper cabinets. Covers cutting inside and outside corners, dealing with walls that are not perfectly square, coping joints versus miter joints, and nailing the molding into place. Crown molding is the detail that makes a cabinet installation look like a custom built-in. It takes patience but it is not as hard as it looks.
